Club history

Katana Judo Club, Chester, was opened on 8th September 2007 by a group of like-minded Judoka who wanted somewhere to train with a friendly atmosphere.

The club’s main coach is Marc Chatterton, 5th DAN, who has over 30 years experience of Judo, and has taught Judo for much of that. He is a Club Coach (UKCC Level 2) with the BJA. We also have a number of other coaches who help out on a regular basis. See Instructors for further details.

None of our coaches are paid for their work, they do it for the love of the sport, and the enjoyment it brings them.

The club currently has over 30 members, both men and women, ranging from Juniors at 5 years old, up to Seniors over 50 years old.

Beginners are always welcome, of any age or gender. All that is required is tracksuit bottoms, a long-sleeve top and a willingness to learn. Once you get a taste of Judo, you can get your own Judo Suit, and our members can help you locate a good supplier. Beginners are always coached separately for their first session to allow them to break into the sport easily.

We charge a mat fee of £3.00 for Juniors and £3.00 for Seniors per Session.

Katana Judo club is a member of the British Judo Association and is fully insured.

If you would like to know more about the club (or would like to see us in action!), don’t hesitate to come visit us at one of our sessions, where one of our members would be happy to assist you.
